In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Optometry under the Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences in the institutions listed above are:

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Optometry as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) IMSU accepts Maths in lieu of Physics.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Optometry as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) ABSU awards Doctor of Optomery (O.D).

(ii) ABSU accepts B.Sc in relevant fields, HND/ND of Ophthalmic and Dispensing.

(iii) IMSU – No Direct Entry.

(iv) FUTO requires at least three ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology. It also accepts ND/HND (Upper Credit) in Optometry. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements. It accepts First Degree holders with a minimum of 2nd Class honours in health related disciplines. It does not accept NCE.
